OLO !!!!        

   In the Papiamento of ARUBA this expression indicates something big has happened or is about to happen.

Well I have been under mouth arrest for some time already not to say anything especially On Face book’

Tonight in a ceremony on Aruba I have been released from saying anything about what has taken place.

As you may recall my granddaughter Elizabeth some years ago was chosen as Miss Teenage ARUBA.

The family was all very impressed and thankful for this great honor. She did not rest on her laurels but went on to study and got her law degree. She also got a degree in economics and is still studying one more subject at the University of Madrid In Spain.

  She was approached by those preparing for ARUBA,S participation in the Miss Universe Contest to consider representing ARUBA in the contest. She appreciated the fact that her whole family was very supportive of the idea and after some contemplation she agreed.

Now what does she bring to the table. Well first of all she is fluent in at least four languages and when I say fluent I mean that. Secondly she now has a law degree and one in economics as well. She is a formidable candidate to be reckoned with.

And what about ARUBA?

I first went to ARUBA in 1955 when there was no tourism to speak of. The ESSO refinery in San Nicolas was the main employer with 8000 employees. The total population at that time was 48.000 people.

The last thirty years ARUBA now with 108.000 people, is a powerhouse in a constant stream of tourists with many of them returning again and again to enjoy their timeshares and the many great hotels on some of the best beaches in the world. In maintaining its lead in tourism and reputation ARUBA is also a giant in public relations and is now known worldwide. So ARUBA and its candidate will be playing an important role in the Miss Universe pagent. Her family is exceedingly proud of her appointment and thankful to ARUBA and its people for their choice.
